Wayne Au, a former public high school social studies and language arts teacher, is an Assistant Professor in the Education Program at the University of Washington, Bothell Campus. He is editor of Rethinking Multicultural Education: Teaching for Racial and Cultural Justice, co-editor of Rethinking Our Classrooms Volume 1 (Revised and Expanded Edition), and writes regularly for Rethinking Schools. About the Author
Ilya Rabinovich (1891-1942) was an early Soviet master from Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). A five-time city champion, he tied for first place in the 1934/35 USSR Championship and was the first Soviet player to compete outside the Soviet Union, placing seventh at Baden-Baden, 1925.
